Mary Virginia Hedges Stephens was my great grandmother. She was the daughter of Benjamin Hedges and Margaret Ropp of Berkeley County, West Virginia. They came to Missouri in 1842 and settled in Platte County near Weston where Benjamin farmed until his death of pneunomia in 1860. Margaret later remarried and lived on until 1891. Mary Virginia married William Lewis Stephens, a widower, and had a second family that included my grandfather, John Henry Stephens. William was 68 when he fathered his last child. Mary Virginia is buried died June 3, 1917 and is buried beside her son John in Graceland Cemetery, Weston, Mo.
I have info on both Hedges and Ropp families and would be glad to share.
