Leavenworth Island and East Leavenworth

During my research I found a U.S. government record that mentioned that my wife's ancestor was instumental in getting some or all of the land of Leavenworth Island moved from Kansas jurisdiction to Missouri jurisdiciion. From what I understand of the record, there was an 1850s flood on the Missouri River that changed the river channel at Leavenworth Island and effectively "moved" the island into Missouri. My wife's ancestor petitioned the U.S. Land Commissioner in around 1858 to make the boundary change official and his request was granted. I am curious where this land might be and wonder if it is the area now called East Leavenworth in Platte County. Does Leavenworth Island exist today in the Missouri River? I also read that there some inhabitants of Platte County who were opposed to the boundary change. Anyone know?
