African-American Keiths in Pike County

I have been curious about slave ownership in my family. My ancestor James R. Keith (b 1805 Nelson County Ky-d 1888 Pike County MO)showed two slaves on the 1850 Slave Census for Missouri, a mulatto girl age 14 and a mulatto boy age 16. According to family tradition, James Keith freed his slaves when the Civil War began, the first to do so in Pike County. The Keith family lived in rural Hartford Township, near Ashley,Pike County. I would like to know what happened to these two freed slaves once they were freed. Does anyone have any information or possible leads? Thanks.
