Thanks for all that information ! Here is my story. My great-grandfather was a known to us as Lewis Henry Lambert. On his death certificate his son,Claude, supplied the information thusly;Father:UNK Lambert,Mother:Minnie Hedrick,
born:TN in 1871. Now years later I find his marriage liscense for his second wife(his first wife's mother)and he, and he says his father was Benjamin Lambert and his mother was Mamie Jones. I knew he was living in Louisiana, MO when he married Rosa Garver Demorest, and that his three oldest children Edith, Ethel, and Claude were born in Louisiana,MO.He left MO in 1901 and moved to MI >IL >MI.
When I found the 1880 census entry for Jerome, it seemed to me that things started to fall into place. Do you know if Jerome's wife Mamie was a Jones before she was a Lambert?
The story he used to tell his children was that his father was killed on a Mississippi River boat over a game of cards, so cards were never allowed in his house, nor was gambling. Family lore says that he went down to MO to visit some folks, and that these people refused to claim him, saying that he really wasn't a Hedrick.
So thanks for your help, I think maybe someday I'll find out his story.
