I've always thought people were using "Hartford" and "New Hartford" interchangeably -- like maybe the real name was New HArtford but not everyone bothered to use the "New" part. We have a town nearby called Eureka Spirngs which is often just called Eureka. But the folks from Pike County could probably tell you (and me) the truth on this question. I don't find either Porter or Lewallen int he book, but one of my Pike County folks is Mary Ann Porter Hill Lewis, born in Ohio. If your Porters might be connected, I have a good bit of information to share.
