I found the article below while researching my ancestor William Hamilton LAWSON. My Ancestor lived in Texas County, Missouri for a number of years and many of his descendants still reside there.

I would love to share/compare information with anyone researching William H. and Martha (ALEXANDER) LAWSON.

I didn't correct any spelling or grammatical errors in the article.
St. Louis Globe-Democrat, September 6, 1876, page 4, Issue 109, Column G

In the United States Court yesterday evening, Alexander HUFF, Hamilton LAWSON, John KNAPP, S.F. ARTHUR, James M. FREEMAN, E.M. MELTON, Wm. BLACK, Wm. KING, Wm. R. RAY, Theodore HEIMEN and Chas. D. HENDRICKSON appeared and entered pleas of “not guilty” to charges of illicit distilling. The cases originate principally in Phelps, Dent and other counties of South Missouri, and are of the kind which have their head-quarters in caves and on the hill-side, the distilling being done by moonlight. The parties have combined in seeing the thing through, and have employed Ewing and Smith, of this city, to defend them. A large number of Government witnesses are present, but attachments were ordered for a number additional this morning.
