Rev. E. P. Powell, formerly pastor of Mayflower Church, this city, but now at the head of one of the largest Congregational Churches in Chicago, will be united in marriage to-day at Warrensburg Mo. to Miss Lucy J. Maltby, of that place. The happy couple will leave for the East immediately, and spend the summer in the neighborhood of Thousand Islands. Doctor Powell is one of the ablest men in the pulpit of the West, and his many friends here and in Chicago will unite in wishing him a long and happy wedded life. (Globe Democrat)
Miss Maltby is a daughter of Hon. Norman Maltby, Mayor of this city, and we congratulate Dr. Powell, whom we do not know, upon his singular good fortune in obtaining as a wife, one of the most intelligent, amiable ladies in the State. She is simply one of the most excellent of earth, and we only reflect the sentiments of all who know her, when we say, that she has no superior as a lady of culture.
We tender our personal congratulations to the happy pair and ask that a full share of the blessings of life may be crowded into their marital cup.
The wedding came off at the residence of the bride's parents, in this city, on last evening at 7 o'clock, the Rev. Abiel Leonard, Rector of Calvary Chapel, officiating.
The happy pair left last evening for the east, on an extended bridal tour.
Thanks for the magnificent bride's cake.
