REED family, Iowa/Missouri/Oklahoma

I continue to search for any information on my Reed family.

William Reed [born about 1856/57 Iowa, and died 1956 Oklahoma] married Mary Hunt (?) [born about 1865/66 Missouri, and died 1937 Oklahoma].

I found them in the 1910 Missouri census for Houstonia, Pettis County. Listed in the census are both William and Mary, and their daughter (my great grandmother) Mollie. According to the census, Mary Reed was born in Missouri, as were her parents; William Reed was born in Iowa, as were his parents.

The 1910 census shows that Mary had 4 children, of whom only 3 were living. The 3 children I am aware of are: Bessie Ellen Reed [believed to be first born, and died 1937 in Oklahoma], Frank Lester Reed [born 1/30/1884 and died 2/14/1916], and Mollie Gertrude? Reed. If the census information is close to correct, then Mollie would have been born around 1897 in Missouri.

Mollie Reed married Ernest Bender Skaggs in MO in 1911. Their daughter, Mary Frances Skaggs, was born in 1912 in Sedalia, Pettis Co., MO. Mollie and Ernest divorced in 1913; he remarried Lena Haley in 1914 in MO. It is believed that Mollie also remarried, but there is no information regarding that.

Bessie Reed was married 3 times; first to a man with the last name Sands--their children were Roy and Mary. Roy later had two children, Ramona and Barbara. Mary Sands later married a Harmon.

Bessie Reed's second husband was Frank L. Swope; thier children were Franklin James "Bud" Swope Sr., and Ruby. Bud Swope later married Alma Brownlee; Ruby later married a Graves.

Bessie's third husband was Clarence Cook. This was her married name at the time of her death in Kay County, OK in 1937. She died an accidental death by train wreck.

Frank Lester Reed married Myrtle Pearl Raus. He also died an accidental death, by gunshot.

Mollie Reed, who married first Skaggs, and second, unknown, also died by accidental death. She is believed to have died by fire in Missouri (probably around Sedalia) and is believed to be buried there. Her daughter was young at the time, so she was raised by William and Mary Reed after Mollie's death. I have no information on when Mollie died, and have been unable to find anything since I do not know her last name at the time, nor the location.

It has been said that my William Reed was a farmhand at one time for a Mr. Gentry in the Sedalia, MO area. The time of this is unknown.

It has also been said that possibly my William Reed had a sister called Lizzie, and an Uncle Mannie. I know for certain that he did have a sister named Janie Reed.

Janie Reed [born 10/1/1853, died 1/24/1930] married Fritz Linder in 1876. She died in OK, and was transported to Sweet Springs, Mo and buried in Blackwater Chapel. According to her obituary, she had 7 children listed at the time of her death as all living: Will Linder (Lamonte MO), Mrs. Mollie Harmon (Sherman OK), Mrs. Louise Sweeper (Sweet Springs MO), John Linder (Kildare OK), Ernest Linder (Sweet Springs MO), Jesse Linder (Sweet Springs MO), and Charlie Linder (Knob Noster MO). Her obituary also lists her brother William Reed, and a half-brother, M.M. Reed of Kansas City, MO.

Does anyone at all have any information regarding this family? Or any helpful tips on where I should go next? Please feel free to email me at
