We are looking for further information on the parents of a Joseph William James. The Joseph on our tree was born about 1875 in Tennessee.

We have a Joseph William James on our tree who was the son of William R. 'Billie' James (1853-1920) and Sarah Ann MITCHELL (1859-1883).

William R. James was born 31 May 1853 in Franklin Co., Tennessee and died 7 Feb 1920 in West Hickman, Fulton Co., Kentucky. Sarah was born abt 1859 in Tennessee and died unknown - died before 1883 probably in Franklin Co., Tennessee.

William 'Billie' James was the son of Riley James (1819-1905) and Sarah NEWMAN (1832-1905). Riley was born abt 1819 in Tennessee and died in the summer of 1905 in Fulton Co., Kentucky. Riley's wife, Sarah NEWMAN James, was born in 1832 in Tennessee and died 7 Oct 1905 in Fulton Co., Kentucky.

William 'Billie' James, his wife and two sons, Joseph and Benjamin, are found on the 1880 census for District 7, Franklin Co., TN. However, their surname is misspelled as "Jeans" versus "James."

This was the last information we had on Joseph William James until someone contacted me on Jan 29, 2011.

The person who contacted me believes that the Joseph William James on our family tree is the same Joseph William James related to his wife's family line.

He indicated that his Joseph William James was born in Mar 1876 in Tennessee and died on 27 Jan 1927 in Trumann, Poinsett Co., Arkansas. His Joseph married 1st on 22 Nov 1894 to Lulu M. HUTCHINS (1877 AR - 1905). Lulu probably died in Arkansas, possibly Poinsett Co. or Mississippi Co., Arkansas. They had two children, Alice born Jul 1898 in Arkansas and William born Oct 1899 in Arkansas.

Joseph, Lulu and their children appear on the 1900 census in Little Prairie Twp, Pemiscot Co., Missouri. This is the same location as our William 'Billie' James which suggests that the two Joseph William James' are the same person (my tree and this man's tree).

**A sister of William R. 'Billie' James, Lou JAMES Pike, was also living in Pemiscot Co., Missouri in 1900 through her death in Jan 1947 which suggests further that there is some relationship between Joseph W. James and our James line.

This man's Joseph W. James married 2nd Nora Lee Russian [RUSHING] on 20 Jul 1907 in Blytheville, Mississippi Co., Arkansas. They are listed in the 1910 census in Mississippi Co., Arkansas as Joe W. and Nora L. James. I believe they had a daughter Ethel [Beatrice] James.

On the 6 Feb 1920 census, Joseph is found on the Mississippi Co., Arkansas census as Joe and Nora James, however, according to the person who contacted me, this Nora is a 3rd wife of Joseph's and her maiden name was Nora V. Randall [Randall may be a married name for her]. Joseph and Nora V. married on 21 Sept 1920 in Blytheville, Arkansas.

Adding further to a possible connection between his Joseph William James and ours is that their family history indicated that their Joseph was a brother to Lou JAMES Pike. However, that would not have been the case. Lou JAMES Pike would have been Joseph's aunt. We know for sure that he would NOT have been a brother as we know all of the children of Riley and Sarah James and Joseph was not one of them. Riley and Sarah were my great-great grandparents.

Does anyone have any information regarding Joseph William James to support that the Joseph that married Lulu and then two Nora's IS the son of William R. 'Billie' James and Sarah Ann MITCHELL?

We would appreciate hearing from anyone who may have further information. Thank you -

Toni Linn
