David. There are two possible sources. The Missouri Herald, Hayti newspaper should have been in existance about that time. It closed about 1960. I don't know if or where their archives are stored. Another source would be the Democrat Argus newspaper in Caruthersville, county seat of Pemiscot county after Gayosa fell in the Mississippi River. The paper is still in print in Caruthersville, Mo (about 5 miles east of Hayti.) Democrat Argus, Caruthersville, Mo 63830. My ancestors were from Wales circa 1780. Crossed into Missouri at Gayaso circa 1880. Hope this may help. Ralph Clayton was managing editor when I left in 1971. He may still be there at the paper.
