There are no Manars in the 1870 index or on the actual images. They are all (3 Williams) listed as Manard as far as I can tell. The dates and enumerator don't reflect reality. The date is not the date of the enumeration but the offical date of submission to the Census Bureau. In this case it was August 15, 1870. Likewise, the enumerator is often a county Marshall (official of the court) or the Sheriff. But, official enumerators often didn't conduct the enumeration. They only supervised it. In this case, the official enumerator Robert J. Gilliland, Assistant Marshall.
