I am having trouble tracing my Ballard group. I believe that my grandfather, Thomas H. Ballard, was born in Couch, MO in 1881. They later moved into Arkansas, probably around 1900. His father was James Mayfield Ballard. James migrated into Missouri with his family sometime just after the Civil War. James was married to a Susan F. Sims. I don't know if they married in Oregon County for sure, but I suspect that they did.
The names in this group were:
Nancy (Head of Household - Widow)
James Mayfield Ballard b. June 21, 1849, TN
Elizabeth Ballard b. abt 1859, AL
Jimima Ballard b. 1854, AL
Caleb Ballard b. abt 1852
George W. Ballard b. 1857, AL
Thomas J. Ballard b. abt 1860, AL
I am not sure why Nancy would have made the move to Missouri after her husband disappeared during the Civil War. She first moved to Butler County, then on to Oregon County. She must have known someone in Missouri. Maybe some Ballards or possibly a Mayfield family. The oldest son, my gggrandfather, was given Mayfield as a middle name. I am assuming that Nancy's maiden name was Mayfield.
Any information or leads would be appreciated.
