birth records

I was wondering if anyone may help.
My husband's greatgrandfather was supposed to have been born in Clyde, Missouri. I know that on his daughter's birth record it says that he was 27 and she was born 19 june 1928, so that would put him born 1900-1902. His name is listed on daughter's birth record as Mike Mckinney.
I called the courthouse there in Nodaway Co and they said that birth records were kept for a short period in 1880's and then they didn't start again until 1910. Is there any way to find a birth record for this county for the 1900-1902 time period??? Help!!!
Thanks,
Deanne Baker
