I found these Franks listed in a recent new 1880 Newton County MO Census* publication I recently purchased from the Neosho Public Library's Genealogy Department while attending a family reunion in the area.

Granby Township, Newton County, Mo
Line 208 (Pg 262 in Book)
FRANKS, A....... W M 33 Head Farmer Mo TN TN
" Lucy L...... W F 25 Wife Keeps Hse AR AR TN

Line 376, City of Granby Township, (Pg 276 in publication)
SKINNER, Parthenia .... W F 52 Widow Keeping House TN TN TN
FRANKS, Newton ..... W--- M--- 36 Son RR TN TN TN
FRANKS, Wm M ..... W----M--- 10 G-son MO TN MO
FRANKS, Jasper N ...... W----M----- 7 G-son MO TN MO

* 1880 Census of Newton County Missouri, compiled by Genealogy Friends of the Library Neosho, Newton County, Missouri, 2001 Price: $35.00 plus MO tax, IT IS NICELY INDEXED!
Try the Bureau of Land Management's website for FRANKS to determine when they purchased land for homesteading. I visited Granby this past September and learned it is the only coal mining town in Missouri and West of the Mississippi. The BLM has images of these land deeds in GIF format and you can order certified copies from them.

Hope this helps!
