Peter Caldwell

I am trying to locate a family of Caldwell's who lived in Morgan Co. during the 1800's. The family was Peter Caldwell, his brother Tommy. parents Robert J. Caldwell and wife Virgie. Peter and Tommy were raised by their Uncle Tom. Peter told his son that his family raised racing horses in Morgan Co., Mo. Peter was seeing a married woman and ended up shooting her husband. When this happened Peter and Tommy left Missouri to go to Louisiana. Peter changed his name to Paul. He was born Dec. 29, 1886 in Versailles, Morgan Co., Mo.
Does any of this ring a bell with anyone? I found one family, Thomas T. Caldwell's, that has the right names but can not quite connect it together. Also not sure that Peter gave his correct birth date. Any help would be greatly appreciated as Peter's son is quite elderly now and would love to have the family legend proved or disproved. Thank You.
