William Poindexter from Virginia
William J.3 Poindexter (Capt. Joseph2, John1) was born in Augusta Co, Virginia 19 January 1772. The Ancestral File and Agee say he was born 19 June 1772 in Augusta Co, while Anderson says "1779" in Albemarle Co.
He married Judith Thomson in Ivy Depot, Albemarle Co, Virginia, 11 September 1798. Judith was born in Ivy, Albemarle Co, Virginia 1779. She was the daughter of Capt. Waddy Thomson, Sr and Mary Lewis. She and her husband resided in Bedford Co, Virginia in 1817, according to a law suit over land filed then. Judith was probably the free white female, age 50 and under 60, in her husband's household, in the 1830 Census in Campbell Co, Virginia. She was probably the free white female, age 60 and under 70, in her daughter Jane's household, in the 1840 Census in Lower Loutre, Montgomery Co, Missouri. Judith died of congestive fever at the home of her daughter Eliza, 24 October 1844 in Montgomery Co, Missouri, at 65 years of age. She traveled to Missouri with Edmund and Sarah Lewis in 1835, and she died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Eliza Mills. Her obituary cites her Baptist faith and her calmness with the approach of her death.
William was listed as the head of a family on the 1830 Census in Campbell Co, Virginia. Living with him in 1830 were 3 men ages 20-29, 3 young women (ages 10-14, 15-19, and 20-29) and an older woman, age 50-59.
William is said, without evidence, to have died 24 November 1834 in Montgomery Co, Missouri, at 62 years of age. He and his wife apparently traveled to Missouri in their last years, about the same time as his children. A primary source for his death date can not be found. His brother Richard was said to have settled in Montgomery Co, Missouri in 1837 and had 10 children there.

William J. Poindexter and Judith Thomson had the following children:

+        16        i.        Waddy Thomson4(Thompson) Poindexter was born 11 December 1800.
17        ii.        Mary Lewis Poindexter was born in Virginia 1804.
+        18        iii.        Jane Meriwether Lewis Poindexter was born 19 December 1804.
+        19        iv.        William James Poindexter was born 8 May 1808.
+        20        v.        Susan Mildred Poindexter was born about 1812.
+        21        vi.        Sarah Lewis Poindexter was born 26 March 1817.
