Hall Deland 1796-1878 & wife Laura Goodrich
I am looking for information about Hall Deland. He was living Bedford Township, Lambertville, Monroe County, Michigan at the 1860 census and the 1870 census.
He fought in the War of 1812 and was one of 33 men who were able to escape from the "River Raisin Massacre" on 1-22-1813.
According to the Harroun family history he was known as the "Night Hawk" and helped fugitive slaves escaping from the south, and when they were brought to him by David Harroun, Jr., of Sylvania, he would take them to the French settlers along the Detroit river, who ferried them across that stream to Canada.
I am looking for any family history records that may indicate that he was involved with the Underground Railroad and helping fugitive slaves escape to Canada.
I am also interested in any information about him and his family.
Gayleen Gindy
A map of Bedford dated 1859 shows him operating a hotel.
I would appreciate any information on him or his family.
