I believe there were at least 2 Alexander lines in Monroe Cty. during the time period you mentioned. I don't know if they were related.
"My" line includes John M. Alexander, b. 1812, Bracken Cty., Ky. JMA married Cordelia Gaines in 1841 in Monroe Cty. By 1860, they had moved to Shelby Cty., Mo. JMA's youngest sister, Anna, also moved to Monroe Cty. where she married William Granville Sanders. They remained in Monroe.
Adding to the confusion over names, JMA's mother was Isabella (Patton) Alexander, b. ca. 1774, Rockbridge Cty., Va. After the death of IPA's husband, Archibald, ca. 1830 apparently moved to Mo. and appears in the 1850 Monroe census living with JMA's family. I should also note that JMA named one of his daughters "Isabella".
Let me know if you'd like further data on this line.
