Wolf Island 1870

I'm looking for the Kelsey family. Charles W. Kelsey and Elizabeth Kirk married 1859 in Mississippi County. They possibly lived in Hickman County KY when the 1860 census came out. They had 3 children: Margaret or Maggie b. 1862; John b. 1864; and Mary Jane b. 1868-69. I've heard through the years from family that they lived on Wolf Island. I can't find any of them in the 1870 census. Charles W. died in 1868-69, 3 months after Mary Jane was born. I'm wondering if Elizabeth remarried.
On the 1880 census, Mary Jane and John are found living with their sister Maggie's family in Iowa. She married Byser David Settlemire 1878 McCracken County, KY. Elizabeth supposedly died before the census was taken, 1880.
I'm really perplexed here. All guidance welcome.

-Ruth
