Cartee Murders, Civil War
Posted by: Laurie Morris (ID *****2304) Date: February 25, 2008 at 10:50:53

Been trying to find for some years any info relating to deaths of Moses Cartee and his wife Mary Ellen Cochran Cartee. They were supposedly murdered by guerrillas in the Tuscumbia area of Miller Co. Have found at least two of the children living with other families in that area in 1870, but haven't found the other children. The deaths took place during the civil war or in that decade prior to 1870. Does anyone know if there are newspapers from that period and area available on microfilm or online? The children were: Susannah b. 1851, Joseph b. 1853, James Younger (may be Joseph Younger) b. 1854, Thomas Franklin b. 1855, William H. b. 1858, and John A. b. 1860. Joseph/James and John A. are the two found living with other families. Any information at all would be appreciated!
