Hi Jody,
I haven't had any other replies to my epidemic question, but it sure seems likely that there must have been one--or some sort of other life-endangering event.
What was the birthdate of your James Alexander?Another lady sent me some information she had paid a researcher to look up in LDS Library-regarding a William Alexander who married Marjory Taylor in Inverkeithny, Banff, Scotland,14 Aug 1735 [IGI batch #M111582 says 14 Aug 1737], and who had a son John christened 1740 [no month or day, but that is my John's year of birth] and a son James christened 18 Oct 1747. There were also sons William [2 Feb 1743], Alexander [28 May 1745], and Robert [17 Feb 1751], and daughters Christine [20 Mar 1737], and Isobel [15 Dec 1738].There is no proof as yet that the John mentioned is my John, but it is a clue.Nora didn't say if this William Alexander came to America and if so, when.
