My mother was born at Fairmount Maternity Hospital in 1923 and adopted from there.

Thanks to new more liberal laws in Missouri regarding release of adoption information, I have just been able to obtain my mother's adoption record. If the adoptee (or lineal descendant if adoptee is deceased) makes an application to the 16th judicial court in Jackson county, they will check the record. They then provide the adoption information to an independent confidential investigator who (for a small fee) will work to prove that the birth mother is deceased. If proof of the birth mother's decease is provided, then the court will send you the adoption records.

In my case, it certainly provided interesting and helpful reading.
