This is a possibility:

1880 census, Calloway Co., MO:
John S. Roache, age 30, b. VA, parents b. Ireland, farmer
Sarah E., age 29, b. TN, parents b. TN
Mary E., age 10, b. KS
Lilla, age 8, b. MO
___ara (hard to read), age 6, b. MO (female)
Isaac H., age 4, b. MO
James C., age 1, b. MO
All listed as "White".

If this is Mary Ellen, she would only have been 14 or 15 when married in 1884.

If there was Indian blood, it would have to be from the mother since John's parents were born in Ireland.

Sandra
