Lady Hawkins passengers
Hi Everyone,
On January 19, 1942, the S.S. Lady Hawkins was hit by
U-66 and sunk off the coast of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina. Among the passengers on the ship were forty men from St. Joseph, Missouri who were headed to Bermuda for construction jobs. When the vessel sank, half the St. Joseph men, my g-grandfather included, perished.
I am going to write a book about the sinking of the Lady Hawkins, and it is difficult to find anything about the people who aboard the ship.
I was wondering if anyone out there may have some information on the passengers, either the deceased or the survivors, that they would be willing to share with me for the purpose of the book. Any photos, stories, and other info would be appreciated, and I would of course credit the people who provide the information. Also any info on the passengers and crew who were not from St. Joe is also appreciated.
Thank you.
