I have found a newspaper article on January 1, 1903 in San Jose which mentions the Wehner's of Evergreen, leaving for Havana, Cuba within a few days. They are presently in Washington, D.C. They plan to return to their Santa Clara valley home the latter part of the current month.
I also found a newspaper article from New Orleans, LA., dated January 21, 1903 which mentions Louis B. Houck returning from Cuba with news of a possible revolution if the Havana soldiers were not paid for their service. Houck, in company with his wife had spent several weeks in Cuba.
Further research reveals that Houck published a book titled "Boundaries of the Louisiana Purchase" and was a builder of railroads.
If you email me directly, I can send on the articles to you.
Happy to help,
