I'm not related -

98% chance he was born in Callaway Co. MO the son of James M. Tharp b. 1834 KY and Matilda Ann Goodrich.

James Tharp married Matilda Ann Goodrich 7/16/1857 Callaway Co. MO

1860 Callaway, MO
Tharp, James 27 MO[KY]
Matilda A. 20 MO
Dore, Henry 24 MO

Looks like Matilda died by 1870

It appears they had 3 children who were living with James' sister Orintha in 1870.

1870 Auxvasse, Callaway, MO
Jackson, Thos J. 40 KY
Orintha 34 KY
Mary E. 11 MO
Martha 8 MO
Lula 3 MO
Anna 9/12 MO
Moore Elizabeth 64 KY (James & Orintha Tharp's mother)
Moore, Antha 24 MO
Tharp, Jeffeerson 8 MO
Tharp, Emmet 6 MO
Tharp, Hattie 4 MO

In 1880 Hattie is still with the Jackson's and her grandmother.

In 1880, Emmet is with his father

1880 Auxvasse, Callaway MO
Tharp, James 47 KY KY -- widower
Emmett 16 son MO KY KY

In 1880 I think J. D. is off on his own somewhere.

There is a marriage for J. D. Tharp to Francis G. Maddox 3/25/1885 in Callaway Co. So he may have been married 3 times. Frances G. Tharp died 6/21/1887 at age of 21 (from Callaway County newspaper)

Anyway, Hattie married Jesse C. Carney, a clergyman. Hattie died in 1949 in Kansas City & gives James & Matilda as her parents. James lived with Hattie in 1910 & 1920 & died in 1927 in Jasper Co. MO. His DC gives parents as Ragin Tharp and Elizabeth Tucker (Eliz. Tucker Tharp Moore.)

Elizabeth Tharp married Jasper Moore in 1845 in Callaway Co. MO.

Both MO DCs are here

There are also links between Elizabeth Tharp Moore, James M. Tharp & Hattie Carney at Find A Grave.
