Welch Family History and Cherokee Connection
I have been researching my Welch family line, mostly with online census records and such. My Great Grandmother was Bessie Welch (B-1898 D-1918). She was the daughter of Amos Welch (B-Abt 1872 D-1966) and Lula Mae Bass (B-1974 D-1930). My grandmother told me that Amos was Cherokee, but that we didn't have a roll number because they never registered. I'm hoping someone out there can help me find some documentation that says whether I am part Cherokee or not. Amos was the son of Joseph M Welch (B-1847) and Annie McDonald (D-1877). I don't have much information on Ann; I only know that there were some Cherokee McDonald's in Missouri. Joseph is the son of Amos Welch (B-1818 D-1862) and Sarah Snelson (B-1811 D-1894). Amos was the son of William Welch (B-1778 D-Abt 1865) and Martha ? (B-1779 - D-Abt 1825). I have found some discussions on the boards stating that Martha was also Cherokee, but nothing with any documentation. I would really appreciate anyone with any documentation giving me a reply here or emailing me directly at [email protected]. SOMEONE out there has the missing key! Thanks!
