I'm not related, but did some looking.
It appears that the KC Candy operation was as a wholesale manufacturer, rather than a retail candy store.
I first find W R Hunter, wholesale confectioner in the 1897-8 KC directory at 13 East 3rd.
The 1900 census shows that W. R. (Jr.), and brothers Clarence, Eugene, & Ernest were all in candy manufacturing.
Eugene's WWI Draft says he was a wholesale candy Mfgr at 1415 Grand Ave. KC.
There are varying birth dates for Edward Hunter, anywhere from the mid to late 1790s to poss. as late as 1811. There is a marriage record for Edward Hunter to Sarah Richardson 12/9/1830 Morgan Co. IL.
There is a Colladen(sp?) Hunter who buys land in 1829/30 Morgan Co. & is living with Edward in 1850. Relationship in unclear, however, brother seems most likely to me.
