Hi Marsha,
It would be interesting to read the account you mention. If you would, just email it to me directly.I think my direct email address is available there.
I compared the list of names in Sgt Goodman's book on Pg 66 to the roster of the 25th Missouri Vols/First Missouri Engineers.I did find that they mention Cass Rose and James Thomas as having been killed in Centralia on Sep 27, 1864.Sergt Peters in Goodman's book is indentified completely as being Valentine Peters. The record has his death date wrong.Shows him killed in Centralia Massacre in October 1865.
I couldn't find an Edmund Pace anywhere in the roster, and two soldiers names are mispelled in Sgt Goodman's list so not found in the roster. They were listed as Josiah Comer in Goodman's book, but named Josiah Conner in the history of the 25th MO Vol.Also Chas Hilterbridle on Goodman's list is actually Charles T Hildebiddle.
Just in case anyone is looking for them.
The history of the 25th MO Vol book also mentions that there was at least one soldier from the 1st Iowa Cavalry on board. He was identified by Goodman as the one who raised the alarm that the "soldiers" in Centralia were instead rebels. No name given though.
I had already visited and left a flower for Sgt Goodman in California. He is lucky to have two graves.Someone has placed him in a grave in Jefferson Barracks, St Louis as well.I left a flower and note identifing where he really was.
