St. Joseph, MO Richard W. Brown, Stella Cole early 1940's
Richard W. Brown graduated high school (Lafayette?) and attended junior college in St. Joseph. He lived with his grandmother, Stella Cole at 1005 Logan. His father (R.R.) was an insurance man in OKC at the time of Richard's death. Richard was a waist gunner aboard a B-17 bomber named the Whale Tail II. It made a cameo appearance while being manufactured in a movie starring Deanna Durbin and Joseph Cotton called "Her's to Hold". I'm trying to track any living relatives to pass along info on his outfit 381st BG 534th SQ and provide them with a photo and other information. My wife's great uncle was on the plane. I have contactedseven of the ten airmen's relatives thus far. The onlyother info I know is that he also worked as a traveling salesman for a soap company for awhile prior to joining the service.
