Charles is likely the Carl Nietling 24 who arrived New Orleans May 1847 on the barque Von Vincke from Bremen (Charles is an anglicization of Carl). He was from "Nordenhoff" and destination was St Louis.

Nordenhoff may be an earlier spelling of Nortenhof, just south of the city of Braunschweig:
