Hi Cuz,
Some thoughts about Hawkins Prater.....
1.He was adopted by W.S. Hodge as shown in the 1880 census.
W.S.Hodge was married to a "C.A. _____"
She was shown at age 20 in the census
Hawkins was shown at age 10...
Could "C.A. _____" have been a sister to Hawkins ???
Otherwise why would W.S. Hodge adopt him unless he was in some other way related
to him or his wife????
We need to find out the maiden name of C.A.____ Hodge
2. We must assume that there is no "Prater" family connection that would bring them
to Osage Co., OK.(re; no other Praters would be found in Osage Co., OK. that are connected
to him because he was adopted and brought there by other family connections).
3.He is most likely the Hawkins Prat that is listed in the 1880 census of Franklin Co., TN.
I have seen several census records on others who were "Praters" but listed at Prat in the census.
This includes records dating back to the late 1500's in England.
Other spelling variations I have found:Pratter, Prator, Preter, Pratar, Parter, Preator, Preater,
Prathor, Prether, etc.
If he is the Hawkins Prat in Franklin Co., TN. ..... then he is most likely descended from
Benjamin Franklin Prater of Lenior City, TN. who marriedNancy Elizabeth Layne (Lane)
in Jefferson Co., TN. 6 Nov., 1798......
His children scattered in TN., northern GA. and one son, George Washington Prater migrated
to Texas.(Note: George Washington Prater became known as "Prather" in Texas.)
Of course there were other Praters in the southern part of TN. at the same time Hawkins
was born but I have not found a connection.
4.In a later census there is a boarder living with Hawkins.....her last name is Aldridge...
Could she be a relative connected to the Praters or is she connected in some other way???
These are just some thoughts I have about him...........
