EDITH E. TORREY
A rosary for Edith E. Torrey, 93, of Wamego, Kan., will be 7 p.m. Monday at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, Wamego. A mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in St. Bernard’s Cemetery. Arrange-ments are by Stewart Funeral Home, Wamego. Visitation will be Monday evening until 8:30 p.m.
She was born May 11, 1914, in St. George Township, Kan., to Arthur and Julia Picolet Fechter and died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2008, at Valley Vista Good Samaritan Center, Wamego.
She graduated from St. George High School in 1932. She married Earl J. Torrey Feb. 16, 1942, in Colorado Springs, Colo. He died March 29, 2002. She taught for nine years from 1932-1941 in Pottawatomie and Wabaunsee counties in Kansas. She made blankets for the Veterans Administra-tion hospital in Topeka, Kan., and the shelter for the homeless in Manhattan, Kan. She was a member of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, women’s auxiliary and Pottawatomie County E.H.U.
Surviving are two daughters, Barbara Smith of Ann Arbor, Mich., and Teresa A. Gull of Topeka, Kan.; two sons, Delbert E. Torrey of Drummond and Donald P. Torrey of Stillwater; four brothers, A. Dean Fechter of Belvue, Kan., Victor Fechter of Manhattan, Kan., and Vinson Fechter and Larry Fechter, both of Wamego; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband and one brother.
