GROUP #2 -- 12 DNA KITS -- Common ancestor for entire group not yet established and possibly lived and died either in Scotland and/or Ulster.

All kits in this group belong to Haplogroup I which indicates an ancient ancestor in Northwestern Europe and common with Viking populations. More specifically, Group #2 belongs to Haplogroup I1a which likely has its roots in northern France. Today it is found most frequently within Viking / Scandinavian populations in northwest Europe and has since spread down into Central and Eastern Europe, where it is found at low frequencies.

Although GROUP 1 ( the descendants of Thomas Gillespie b. 1719 m. Naomi Thompson both d. Dec 12, 1797 in Rowan Co. NC, and Col. George Gillespie b. 1735 and resided in Limestone, Washington Co. TN ) and GROUP 2 are both from Haplogroup I, they are from different subsets of that haplogroup, indiciating ancient ancestors from different regions. Group #1 belongs to Haplogroup I1c. Descendants of GROUP 1 and GROUP 2 are NOT related to each other.
