Researching John Welch family (spelled Walch on the 1900 Census of Cooke County Texas). His father John W.Welch married Mary H. Stevens in Shelby County, Illinois on 03 August 1865.
Who was John W. Welch's parents?
His mother was Cherokee Indian according to family stories. They lived in Missouri during the Civil War.
Sarah E. Stephens born abt 1829 in Jefferson, MO. married William Stevens (1) abt 1846 she married (2) Jo A. Murrell abt 1850.
Children of Sarah and William Stevens are:
Mary H Stevens b. about 1847, d. Jun 1867, Missouri
Benjamin Stevens b. abt 1848.
