Descendants of Joshua Davis-Request for DNA Test
I am attempting to trace my Davis ancestry, but have hit the wall using conventional methods.I am, therefore, trying to use a DNA (Y-Chromosome) technique to search for a link to possible ancestors.I descend from Caywood Davis (1809-1883) who was born in Kentucky or Tennessee and migrated to Southern Illinois where he remained. The most promising theory is that Caywood was the son of CharlesDavis(ca.1774-ca.1841) and Sarah Cummins.Charles had a brother Joshua Davis who was born ca. 1779 in New York and died 2 May 1845 in Polk County, Missouri.Joshua and his wife, Sally Moody, left a number of descendants in Missouri and Arkansas.A Y-Chromosome test of a male descendant of Joshua Davis who also bears the surname Davis could assist me in determining whetherJoshua’s brother Charles is, in fact, my ancestor.
Therefore I am requesting any male, Davis descendant of Joshua Davis (1779-1845) to take a Y-Chromosome test so that the results can be compared with mine—and obviously anyone else’s working on a Davis lineage.I completed a 25-marker test in 2005 through FamilyTreeDNA, which is probably the best known of the scientific and genealogical organizations which performs such work.My results are available through their website and can be accessed through YSearch, which provides for quick comparisons of all profiles in any similar database. If you are willing to consider this simple and painless test that can mean so much for your fellow genealogical researchers, please go to their website at http://www.familytreedna.com/default.asphttp://www.familytreedna.com/default.asp where you will find information on the procedure, the costs, and lots of interesting background on DNA testing.I look forward to meeting some new Davis cousins through this process.Thank you.
