This is a tough one as I'm sure you know. I can't find any trace of Britton Parent before the 1860 census except for one record. In 1852 he patented 40 acres of land in Piatt Co, IL. Piatt is a neighboring county to Coles Co. One thing that might help is a Martin Parent who was married in 1861 in Piatt Co, IL. Here he is in 1880 Nebraska:

Household:

Name Relation Marital Status Gender Race Age Birthplace Occupation Father's Birthplace Mother's Birthplace
Martin PARENT Self M Male W 44 IN Farmer KY KY
Mary Anna PARENT Wife M Female W 43 IL Keeping House KY KY
Mary Ruth PARENT Dau S Female W 12 IA IN IL
Wm TAYLOR Other S Male W 22 NE Laborer MO MO
Ben NIPPS Other S Male W 22 AR Laborer AR AR
Lavina JOHNSON Other S Female W 16 HANOVER Servant HANOVER PRUSSIA

Source Information:
Census Place Rock Creek, Otoe, Nebraska
Family History Library Film 1254753
NA Film Number T9-0753
Page Number 342A

It says both of his parents were born in KY so he may be a younger brother or cousin to Britton. I've looked, though, and haven't found this Martin in 1850.

Doug
