Jo - I think your grandmother, Amanda Jane Hemphill, is the sister of my grandfather, Oscar Harrison Hemphill. I do not know where he was born but he is from the Claremore, Chelsea, Nowata areas. He had a sister Janie, a sister Cordie, and brother Walter, and probably Bert. Walter had a son named for my grandfather, Harrison, he was called and I always knew him as "Little Harrison" probably because I've found out that my grandfather went by Harrison, his middle name, while Oscar,was his first name. I know precious little about my grandfather's family. He married Sabra Acuff but she died only a few years later. My father, Everett Harrison Hemphill was the only child. My grandfather later married Celia Bowen but there were never any other children. I think my Great Aunt Janie and your grandmother are the same person. I have a picture when my grandfather was a young man of him, Janie, Cordie, and two other men, probably Walter and Bert. My grandfather was born November 15, 1891. I know his people were originally from Missouri. I've found newspaper clippings connecting him to a family of Hemphill's from Missouri with 8 or 9 children. Don't know exact connection except they were Hemphills. Please feel free to contact me and maybe we can put some more of the pieces together.
