BYRD (Bird) WORRELL (Worl)
Posted by: Nannette Worrell Serra (ID *****2802) Date: September 13, 2003 at 15:27:24

John Ruddell was born in Bourbon County KY in 1812 and was the son of Rev. Stephen Ruddell born in Culpepper Co, VA 1768. As a boy, Stephen was captured by the Indians in an attack against Fort Ruddle (Ruddell) and lived with the Shawnee tribe of Tecumseh for 15 years. After he returned he was married and then went back to preach. In 1817 he moved from KY to Pike County, MO. In 1823 he moved on to Illinois.

I am interested in this story, which appeared in the Spring 2001 edition of the Ruddlesforter, a newsletter of the Ruddell and Martin Stations Historical Association, primarily because of the information it discloses about a BYRD/WORRELL family that I would be interested in learning more about.

Jack Worrell was a distant cousin of the Ruddells. On May 1, 1885, Jack (J.A.) Worrell, a resident of Jackson, Missouri at the time, wrote a letter to a Mr. L. Houck, about his Ruddell cousins. From this letter I learned that the mother of Jack WORRELL was a daughter of Abraham BYRD. Bourbon County KY, which is near Fort Ruddell, is where the family of Atwell WORL/WORRELL lived. I am interested in this WORRELL/BYRD marriage to see if it can be connected to the marriage of Bryant WORRELL and Dorcas BYRD who resided in Coosa County, Alabama after migrating from NC and SC. Any help would be appreciated.
