Collins hanged in MO. 1800's

Wm. and Margaret Collins had a son, Jefferson, in Indiana, in 1838. Later, they moved to Newton County, Missouri, where the other children were born. After the War of Northern Aggression, Jefferson became rather notorious as an outlaw, and was purported to have been hanged, in Barton County, near Lamar, Missouri. Does anyone have any information as to when the event took place, or the nature of his alleged transgressions? Thanks.
