I was born in Belleville, Missouri, in 1938. It was a small community, just north and west of Joplin. it was only a short distance from the area of Joplin known as Chitwood. The community was the home of the Klan Cave, meeting place of the KKK. The community disappeared, and the area today is called Bell Center. The cave is still there, and the KKK still meets there. During the 60's, 70's and 80's, and, even in the 90's,it was deserted, but, in recent years, the KKK has experienced a resurgence, and, on nights when there is a gathering, I'm told that parking is impossible for a half mile mile around the meeting place.
