Thanks for your reply. I appreciate your input on my query. Since I posted that message, I have found the marriage records in Maries Co., MO for W. N. Birdsong to Laura I Hutcheson on 16 Oct 1881.
Interesting that you found that information among Delbert McBride's entries. I have corresponded with him in the past concerning other connections we have, but not on this particular one.
There was a W.N. Birdsong who was a justice of the peace in Maries Co., as well as the postmaster of Lanes Prairie. If this is the same man as the one who married Laura, he signed some pension forms for another of my people (Lucretia Mason's brother-in-law). Small world back then.
