William Mathews - merchant Marquand

Trying to identify William B. "Buck" Mathews, b. 1842 or 1845. The 1850 census for Madison Co. has two William Mathews: one with parents E. C. [Eekiel Cunningham] Mathews and Celeste Tesreau (7 yrs old), and the other is probably the son of Russell Marion Mathews and Matilda Pruitt (5 yrs old). Does anyone know which one is Buck? Death certificate for Wm Mathews, b. 30 Oct 1842, d. 7 Aug 1910, lists occupation as retired merchant. I believe my ggf had a dry goods store in Marquand but don't know if he was called Buck. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks, Sally
