Thanks for answering Michael. My Mom was one of the girls, she was adopted and as far as I know so were the other 3 girls. Sam Simino was in the army, WW1, they were divorced about 1922 and he d.1955. I found divorce papers here in St.Louis and believe she divorced him. She may have moved here to be close to the kids. Mom and Dad went to visit Sam once, late 1930's, in St.Francois County, he lived by himself and would not talk about family, was very bitter. From what I gather the marriage never was a good one,and they were separated from about the time he got out of army,1918. I do have pix of both and the kids, all about 1918, that I can post. Just hope someone remembers them. Mom's birth certificate states she was born Valle Mines, Jefferson County,1915 so I think the family moved around a bit. Sam may have been a miner in that area. I spoke with Paul James Simino about 1985, who was kind of an expert on Simino family, he recognized Sam's photo as a cousin who lived around Elvins. There must have been been some connection to St.Francois County for him, tho' his early years were spent in Madison. He's buried JeffBarracks but no other relatives I could find are there. I did check SSDI and JeffBarracks for more on Ed Smith and Edith, nothing.
I need to get to court house at Madison and check probates, there may be a mention of her and/or kids.
Thanks again for the time you have spent on this and maybe we'll solve this thing soon, Al
