Trying to find information regarding the family of my maternal great grandmother Ellen Ewen, nee Carter. According to her grave in Newlin, Hall County, Texas, she was born Oct. 3,1847 and died July 24, 1926. She apparently married William Milton Ewen on February 25, 1863 in Chillicothe, Livingston County, Missouri. When my mother's oldest sister died, we found a list of siblings in her bible for Ellen: Will, George, and Ann Scott (presumably Ann's married name). I found a Carter family living next door to William Ewen and his family in the 1850 Livingston County MO census. The problem is that none of the children except Ellen match up (and her birth year is off a couple, which might be because census year was off, but William's birth date matches). The family in the census was : William Carter b. abt. 1816 in Ohio, Rebecca b. VA abt. 1829, John A. abt. 1842 MO, Eliza abt. 1847, Jane V. abt. 1849 and Ellen. It might be that the ones in the bible were born after that census, but not sure why none in census listed in bible, if indeed her family. Also found buried in Gibbons Cemetery, Livingston, Missouri (the same cemetery as William Ewen's parents and a child of William and Ellen) William Carter, died March 08, 1856. Need help determining whether family living next to Ewens or man in cemetery are indeed that of my Ellen Carter, what might have happened to parents and siblings and any ancestral data including mother's full name. Have also found Ellen and Will Ewen living in Cooke County, Texas, in the 1880 census and in searching that county's records, have found 1850 census showing J. A. and A. Carter, with dau. "E" right age to be Ellen and son "W" (might be Will). Any help would be very much appreciated.
