Hi Delores, You are welcome. Your quest is a noble one. Some county clerks are more helpful than others. They don't work on a comission, and if you don't like their service you can't go to their competitors. My brother sells appliances. He gives excellent customer services; if he didn't, people would go to another appliance store, and he's be out in the parking lot, holding up a sign, "Will sell appliances for food." I went to http://www.rootsweb.com/~mogenweb/snail.htm I like the US Gen Web a lot. It is in my top 3 favorites. The page above led me to http://www.health.state.mo.us/BirthAndDeathRecords/BirthAndDeathRecords.html which says to save your gas. They don't let you into the records anyway. You have to write them and it costs $10. Here is what they say: ========================== The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, Bureau of Vital Records has certificates of Missouri births, deaths and reports of fetal deaths from January 1, 1910 to the present with some delayed filings prior to 1910. Note: in the State of Missouri, vital records are not open to the public. Certified copies of Missouri records of birth, death, and fetal death reports, are available by writing to: Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services Bureau of Vital Records P.O. Box 570 Jefferson City, MO 65102 A fee of $10.00 per copy must accompany the request. Make check or money order payable to Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services. Checks must be drawn on a United States bank. A money order must also be drawn on a United States bank or issued by the United States Postal Service. Do not send cash. Allow approximately two weeks for processing. ============================ I had some other ideas that might be cheaper. Ask the cemetery office if they have records. SOmetimes they do, sometimes not. Some cemeteries don't even have offices, either. Go to the public library, look in old phone books or old city directories for funderal homes. If there were any back then that are still in business, call them to see if they handled Mr. Bufford's funeral. If they did, and their records go back that far, they will have his death date. I looked for anyone named Bufford in or near Troy in a web-based phone book, http://directory.superpages.com/people.jsp?SRC= There are two. One is in Winfield. I don't know how close that is because I live in California. You could call them to see if they are related, and, if so, if they know when he died. Angela Bufford 46 Runge Ln Winfield, MO 63389 (636) 528 - 2064 R. Bufford Troy, MO 63379 (636) 462 - 4735 I hope this helps. Notify Administrator about this message?
