Ann,
Check the Missouri Secretary of State website for FREE Death Certificates.
www.sos.mo.gov
Left hand side column "Geneaologists & History", tab right and down 2 tabs for Online Databases which includes Pre-1910 Deaths, Coroner's Inquirests, and 1910-1956 Deaths for all Counties in Missouri. This one is the biggest Gold Mine as Birth dates are as early as 1840s, 1850s, 1860s to deaths in mid 1950's.

You may also find Civil War Pension records from 1880's to late 1920's.
Good Luck!
Jean
