William Shipman (b. 1780-1790 NC) is found in the 1830 census for Bedford County Tennessee (page 31, mistakenly listed under the surname Chisum). William had a son John T., born about 1822 in TN, whose middle name was reportedly Turner.

Also in the 1830 census for Bedford County TN, Rebecca Turner, age 40-50,is listed between William and his brother James Shipman. A few households away on one side is John Turner, age 60-70, and a few households away on the other side is John C. Turner, age 20-30. In the 1840 census for Bedford County (page 101), William is living near Levi Turner and Daniel Turner, both age 20-30.

Beginning in the late 1830s, various Shipmans from Bedford County TN moved to southwest Missouri, particulary Newton, Lawrence and Barry counties. William Shipman relocated to Newton County MO about 1841. His cousins Dennis and Robert Shipman were in Lawrence County by the late 1840s. In the 1850 census for Lawrence County (page 291B), Daniel Turner, age 37 TN, is listed a few households away from Dennis Shipman. In the 1850s, there were land transactions in Lawrence County between Daniel Turner, Dennis Shipman and Robert C. Shipman.

Does anyone know what the Shipman/Turner relationship was? If possible, please give original sources of information in any response.
