I don't know of any Bowles/Bolles/Boles/Bowls/Boals, etc that were from PA in Laclede Co. Most hailed from VA then thru TN or KY.

Did do some digging for you though, and I think I solved your Bella mystery.
"She" was misidentified and was really a "he" on the 1850 Census in Fulton Co. PA.

In 1860 Blair Co. PA
James Bowles 25 PA School Teacher
Crawford Bowles 21 School Teacher

Can't be a coincidence, they must be brothers.

1880 Logan, Blair Co. PA
Bowles, James B. 36 Teacher
Mary L. 37
Ross 3
Crawford 2
Maggie E, sister 45 PA

Absolutely no way this James isn't Robert's son. With the middle initial of "B." I figured it probably was Bell, and the census taker assumed it was a girl in 1850.

Found this tree on worldconnect that agrees with me.

The Ross problem is really that Ross may well be a middle name, and he never went by it after leaving home.

With Crawford, James, and Maggie (Margaret) all being in Blair Co PA, I'd focus the hunt there, if you haven't already.

BTW - Where did Catharine b. @ 1833 go?
