Hello. I have several winfreys in my wifes family tree. They came from Tennessee and settled around Camden county, MO. I have a James Madison Winfrey, jr married to Eleanor Minerva Conn. He was born in 1814 in Tennesse and died in Camden co. He had a son named James Madison Winfrey, III but I believe he was probably born in Camden co., not tennessee. Chances are, these families are connected somehow. Interested in finding out.
